Empowering Women and Youth
This is a new program structured around a family model, with the support theme being to nurture and encourage women and children to acquire vocational and life skills needed to lead productive lives. This sensitization process aims to encourage leaders and their communities to take action in support of affected women and children, and to monitor those most vulnerable, ensuring that they are under the supervision of adults, in school, accessing needed services and realizing other basic rights. Of particular importance is alerting leaders to the risk of sexual abuse and exploitative labour faced by these children and the need to create a culture in which abuse is unacceptable and violations are dealt with effectively. This heightened awareness provides much needed attention to vulnerable children and stimulates locally driven action in response to identified needs.
Program activities are imbedded in its minimum package of services and rights. The minimum package of services and rights are the services and rights that are provided to a child in order to count him or her among those served by a program or intervention. The following constitute the minimum package of services and rights to be provided by the program: care, support and protect orphans and vulnerable children with support in education, food/nutrition, psychosocial support, health, child protection (protection from exploitation, abuse and neglect), clothes and household economic strengthening. Strengthening women’s land and inheritance rights; improving community health initiatives (HIV/AIDS, malaria, etc) and Women economic empowerment.
